Woman dies in chain reaction crash in Pratt County
A busy highway between Pratt and Hutchinson was closed for a time Monday while Kansas Highway Patrol troopers investigated a three-vehicle crash.
The pile-up on K-61 left a 78 year old woman dead.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a vehicle driven by Virginia Sell of Stafford was slowing or stopped to make a turn off the highway, when it was rear-ended by a second vehicle driven by 35 year old Jennifer Dale of Preston. The collision was violent enough to push the vehicle into the west bound lanes of the highway, where it was struck by a semi.
The Sell woman died at the scene. Dale is in fair condition at Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis in Wichita.
The driver of the semi, Anthony Villanueva of Aurora, Missouri, was not injured in the crash.
The crash occurred just after 3 p.m. Monday.
