Changes planned for downtown Wichita street
Wichita officials plan to begin construction next year on a project to finish the conversion of a downtown street from one-way to two-way traffic.
William was changed to two-way traffic between St. Francis and Emporia when the Intrust Bank Arena opened in 2010, but the city's downtown master plan calls for two-way traffic from Emporia west to Main Street.
The city's traffic engineer, Paul Gunzelman, said the project will involve any needed pavement repairs, and traffic signals will be changed to accomodate eastbound traffic. The project will cost around $375,000.
Gunzelman said there will be no changes for parking along William. Diagonal parking is allowed on the north side of the street on some blocks, and parallel parking will remain on the south side.
