The Kansas Highway Patrol would like to remind all motorists to remain safe during the New Year holiday. Drivers are urged to plan ahead if they will be attending parties to celebrate the New Year. Partygoers who plan on drinking should designate a driver ahead of time or plan on calling a taxi.

"The Patrol wants everyone to have fun as they welcome in the New Year," said Colonel Ernest E. Garcia, Superintendent of the patrol. "But we also want to make sure that travelers and their families are kept safe this weekend as they travel to and from their get-togethers. Our officers will be out working and watching for impaired drivers, and any of those violating Kansas law."

The patrol has begun displaying red ribbons on agency-owned vehicles to symbolize their zero tolerance policy, and to remember those lost to alcohol related tragedies.
