Cooking fire left heavy damage to Wichita home
A woman and six children are homeless after fire caused extensive damage to their house.
Wichita Fire Investigations Cpt. Stu Bevis said a 13 year-old boy was cooking while doing homework when the stove caught fire. He got out safely. The fire started about 3:30 Thursday afternoon in the 2400 block of North Raleigh. That's near 25th Street North and Grove. Damage was estimated at $35,000 to the home and its contents. The Red Cross was called to assist the family with necessities.
