Three families sue Hutchinson school district
HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) Three families whose young children broke bones while playing on a Hutchinson elementary school's monkey bars have sued the school district for negligence.
The Associated Press reports two of the families have settled their cases, with the district's liability insurer agreeing to pay a total of $3,000 to each. A third lawsuit was filed on Thursday.
Children in all three families suffered either a broken wrist or arm while playing on the equipment at Faris Elementary School. The mother of one of the children said the monkey bars, which had been new, had problems because there were no ladder steps.
The equipment has been removed. The district denies liability and said it entered into the settlements to avoid costly litigation.
