Firefighters from four departments fight a Butler County house fire
Firefighters from Towanda, El Dorado, Augusta and Benton were needed to control a house fire between Towanda and Augusta.
"The entire upper-floor roof of the split-level house was on fire. You could see it from a couple miles away," said Towanda Fire Chief T.C. Pyle.
The call was dispatched to the 4200 block of SW Hopkins Switch at 1:57 a.m. today.
"When we arrived we ascertained everyone was out of the house and began a defensive fire attack," Pyle said. "We waited for resources from neighboring departments to get enough water on scene to do a full, interior attack."
Pyle said a man and a woman in their early 40s were out of the house, along with the family dog.
"We had a chimney fire, actually a separation in the chimney wall - the flue pipe," said Pyle.
The investigation of the fire cause is continuing. Pyle estimates the fire damage at $120,000.
