Hutchinson man on his way back to federal prison
A Hutchinson man with a felony conviction is on his way back to jail after he was arrested in possession of a High Point 9-mm handgun.
Joshua Whitehurst, 35, was sentenced to eight years in federal prison Monday, according to U.S. Attorney for Kansas Barry Grissom. Whitehurst was prohibited by federal law from possessing a firearm because of prior felony convictions, including a 2003 conviction in Harvey County District Court on a charge of involuntary manslaughter.
“Kansas was third in the nation last year for the number of federal firearms prosecutions,” Grissom said. “The fight against gun violence is a top priority.”
Grissom commended the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Treaster for their work on the case.
