Salina South High School senior gets big WSU scholarship
A summer job can wait a little while longer for one high school student.
Wichita State University has selected Salina South High School senior Margarette Long as the winner of the Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail Scholarship. Long will receive $8,000, or $2,000 a year over four years, to attend WSU.
Circle High School senior Emily Hoover is the runner-up. Hoover will receive $4,000, or $1,000 a year over four years, to attend WSU. Long and Hoover were selected from a pool of about 100 applicants competing for the AVCT Scholarship.
A spokesman said to be eligible for the scholarship, students were required to have a 24-or-higher ACT score, a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA, apply for WSU general scholarships and be a student at an AVCTL high school.
Ark Valley Chisholm Trail Scholarships have been awarded annually to incoming Wichita State freshmen since 2005.
