Wichita businessman to chair state peace officers training post
Kansas Governor Sam Brownback has appointed Wichita businessman John Whitmer to the Kansas Commission on Peace Officers' Standards and Training.
Whitmer was appointed as a member and chair on Dec. 12 to serve a four year term expiring July 1, 2016. Whitmer succeeds Wichita Attorney David Moss.
A news release states The Kansas Commission on Peace Officers' Standards and Training is committed to providing the citizens of Kansas with qualified, trained, ethical, competent and professional peace officers.
It is also committed to adopting and enforcing professional standards for certification of peace officers to promote public safety and preserve public trust and confidence.
Whitmer attended the University of Kansas, where he studied Political Science and Public Administration. John and his wife, Marlena, are members of Asbury United Methodist Church and are active in the Wichita community.
