A health official said flu season hasn't peaked in Wichita
The Sedgwick County Health Department is out of flu shots while the "bug" has yet to run its course.
"We are out at the health department. We were targeting uninsured adults and we have given all of the vaccine we have," Spokeswoman Adrian Byrne-Lutz said. "The very young and those over 55 years old are most at risk from influenza."
So far, there have been no flu related deaths.
Local hospitals are seeing a higher number of flu patients compared to the same time last year.
"It's still a good idea to wash your hands and cough into your sleeve to help prevent spreading the flu," Byrne-Lutz said.
The peak of flu season in Kansas is in February and March.
