Man dies after falling from tree
Police believe a man fell 45 to 50 feet from a large elm tree when he sawed through the wrong branch Friday afternoon.
The man was with a group of friends who were felling the tree in the 2000 block of North Minneapolis in Wichita.
"He had attached himself to a branch with a rope," said Police Sgt. Jeff Davis. "The branch that he cut was the same branch that he attached himself to the tree with."
Davis said the man was able to hold on for a few seconds as the heavy branch caused the rope to cinch tightly around his midsection. Other men witnessed the accident and called 911 right away.
Paramedics rushed the man to Wesley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at about 1:30 p.m.
