It is a new experience for Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett, as he was sworn into office by Chief Judge James Fleetwood.

"It is not quite surreal, but it is starting to hit me," Bennett said.

It was standing room only inside the eighth floor courtroom where Bennett took his oath. He succeeds longtime district attorney Nola Foulston on a campaign of re-energizing the DA's Office.

"We spend the last four or five months getting the office ready to go and I hope to hit the ground running," Bennett said. "My priorities that I considered before I ran for office are still the same ones economic crime, elder abuse, helping (docket) attorneys move cases a lot faster and always trying to be a good steward of public funds."

Members of the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office and Wichita Police Department were on hand for the ceremony, as well as Bennett's staff of attorneys, who were also sworn into office Monday morning.
