Man wrecks into tree trying to escape Wichita police
Wichita Police have a felon in custody on several charges after he wrecked his car into a tree trying to escape officers.
The 20-year-old man ran a red light going eastbound at 13th and Broadway around 11:20 p.m. Monday. When an officer tried to pull him over, the suspect kept going toward 14th and Emporia.
"The officers lost them, and realized there was a large amount of debris and dust that had kicked up," said Lieutenant Doug Nolte. "What had happened was the vehicle has lost control and hit a tree at 14th and Emporia."
A semiautomatic handgun and marijuana was found in the car. The man was taken into custody on charges of felony evade and elude, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of marijuana, hit and run and other traffic charges.
A 46-year-old woman in the car ran into a home in the 1500 block of N. Emporia after the crash. Nolte said the woman was not arrested.
