Copper thieves targeting irrigation systems
The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office is reporting an uptick in copper thefts in the northwest part of the county.
Copper thieves have stipped wire from at least six irrigation pivots. Damage to the large irrigation systems is estimated at more than $18,000. The sheriff's office says the damage is greater than $15,000.
People who live or travel in rural parts of Sedgwick County are asked to call 911 if they see any suspicious activity, especially around irrigation systems. Anyone with information about the thefts should call the sheriff's office or Crime Stoppers at 267-2111.
