Deceased baby found in dumpster
Wichita police believe a 17-year-old girl is the mother of a newborn baby girl whose body was found in a dumpster late Wednesday at the Eastgate Mall at Kellogg and Rock Road.
Officers found the remains at about 11 p.m., and they also learned that the suspected mother showed up at a hospital with significant hemorrhaging. They believe the girl delivered a baby the previous week. It wasn't immediately clear who may have dumped the baby in the dumpster.
Homicide investigators are working the case as a suspicious death.
A news release said more information will be made available on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at the police department's regularly scheduled news briefing.
