House fire destroys back and garage of Augusta home
Augusta fire crews battled a house fire in the 100 block of east Broadway.
Augusta Department of Public Safety Chief Tyler Brewer said numerous call about the fire came into the 911center around 5:15 p.m. Sunday.
"When we arrived, the back portion of the house and garage was completely engulfed in flames," Brewer said.
The sudden change in wind direction and speed was the greatest concern for firefighters, especially with additional homes just feet away from the fire.
Brewer said the fire was brought under control within 20 minutes, however crews remain on the scene to knock down any spot fires that could flare up.
"The garage and back portion of the home is a complete loss," Brewer said.
A cause of the fire is still under investigation. No injuries were reported.
