Wichita police say baby found in shopping center dumpster may have been stillborn
Wichita police say baby found in a dumpster last week may have been stillborn. The mother was a 17-year-old girl who took the child to the trash and did not tell her parents about the birth.
Lieutenant Randy Reynolds said the girl gave birth on Jan. 10, and then placed the baby girl in the trash. A family member, not knowing about the child, later took the trash to a dumpster at the Eastgate shopping center at Kellogg and Rock Road.
Reynolds said the teenage mother became ill and was taken to a hospital. There, it was discovered she had given birth. That led to the discovery of the child in the dumpster. Reynolds said police have talked to the child's father and the investigation is continuing.
The girl could end up facing charges, even if it is determined the child was stillborn.
