Firefighters battle flames at west Wichita building
Fire caused heavy damage to a west Wichita business Wednesday afternoon, but there were no reports of injuries. The 2-alarm fire was reported around 4:15 in a sheet metal shop at Hana Heating and Air Conditioning in the 200 block of North West Street, and it involved one building in a complex of buildings at that location.
Fire chief Ron Blackwell said a passerby saw smoke and went to tell the people in the building. Chief Blackwell said there were concerns about hazardous chemicals in the building, but there were no reports of any explosions.
Chief Blackwell said fire crews were expected to be on the scene throughout the night. When the fire is completely out, investigators will go in to look for the cause.
