Wichita police have 5 children in protective custody after one of them turned up at school Wednesday with bruises and welts all over his body.

Staff at Colvin Elementary School called police late Wednesday after an 8-year-old boy was found to have bruises.  Lieutenant Doug Nolte said it was determined that a family member had used a belt to discipline the boy.   Officers went to the boy's southeast Wichita home and took his 4 sisters, ages 2, 3, 4 and 6, into protective custody.

Nolte said no arrests have been made at this time.
