Man tells police he was attacked with an ax in southeast Wichita

A 28-year-old man told Wichita police he was attacked with a small ax or hatchet outside a southeast grocery store.

The man was at the Food Mart in the 7100 block of East Lincoln around 11:15 p.m. Thursday when another man approached him and struck him four times.

Lieutenant Doug Nolte said the man was taken to a hospital to be treated for lacerations to his head. The attacker was described as an African American man, around 6-feet-2 inches tall and 230 pounds, in his upper 20s or early 30s.  

No arrests have been made. A motive for the attack is not known.
