The last of a number of Mexican citizens connected with several drug deals in Wichita was sentenced to federal prison.

Juan Arellano Padilla, 36, of Kansas City, Kan. will spend nearly 13 years behind bars. Four other men have already been sentenced in the drug trafficking case.

It began in late 2009, when the Wichita Police Department began conducting an investigation into suspected drug trafficking involving a number of people, some of who had ties to Mexico.

During the investigation, Oklahoma City Police stopped a van in Norman, Okla. and seized 137 pounds of marijuana bound for Wichita.

A news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office said investigators also obtained wiretaps to monitor traffickers’ phones, monitored global positioning devices on specified cell phones and arranged to buy drugs from the men.

Carlos Ramirez,  Alejandro R. Hernandez, Ponciano Munoz-Meraz and Guillermo Amparan have been sentenced for various drug trafficking violations.

The Wichita Police Department, Oklahoma City Police Department and DEA also worked on the case.
