Wichita police had no suspects immediately in mind after a 26-year-old man was found shot in the chest in his home in the 1700 block of East 23rd Street North.

"My understanding is that he was here with a couple of children," said Wichita Police Capt. Rusty Leeds. "A family member had been gone for a short period of time and returned to find the crime scene."

The man, whose name was not released, had been shot in the chest. The family member called 911 at around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday. The victim was pronounced dead at Wesley Medical Center. The children who had been home were not hurt. Leeds said they are both under the age of 5.

The victim had no known ties to gangs. Detectives hoped to develop leads in the case as they interviewed family members Tuesday night.
