Wichita Chamber raises over $9 million for economic development
The Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce says its "Business at Full Throttle" campaign has gone just over its goal of $9 million for economic development activities. The funding will support projects and activities of the Greater Wichita Economic Development Coalition over the next 5 years. Funding was provided by 173 investors in a campaign that began last September.
The announcement was made at the Chamber's annual Chairman's Lunch, held at the Intrust Bank Arena. Wichita mayor Carl Brewer talked about the funding issues that are facing the city this year, as outlined in his State of the City address earlier in the week. Sedgwick County Commission chairman Jim Skelton said flood control and the Judge Riddel Boys Ranch will be among the top issues for the next year, and he said the county is still looking at areas where it could consolidate functions with the city of Wichita. The city and county combined their code enforcement and inspection operations in 2012.
