A Wichita developer has completed the purchase of the historic Union Station, with plans to convert it into a center for retail shops, restaurants and office space.

Gary Oborny of Occidental Management purchased the building from Cox Communications, which occupied the building until it moved to a new location about four years ago.

Jeff Fluhr, president of the Wichita Downtown Development Corporation, said the downtown building is an icon for the community. He said the project will have a monumental impact on downtown revitalization.

Fluhr said the project will fit in with Old Town, Intrust Bank Arena and the continuing development of the Douglas Avenue corridor.
