Westar Energy reports several customers have contacted Westar Customer Relations after receiving suspicious phone calls.

The caller claims to be a Westar service representative, and will try to obtain the customers credit card number, or other personal information. The caller may say the customers check has bounced, or they have a past-due bill.

Westar said legitimate calls will display Westar Energy on a caller ID, and the number 1-800-383-1183. A real service representative should always be able to give their name and an extension where they can be reached. Westar also said calls to customers requesting payment are never made on the same day as disconnections.

Any suspicious caller should be hung up on and customer relations should be contacted at 1-800-383-1183. Suspicious calls may also be reported to local law enforcement.
