Derby City Hall restructures business hours
New business hours start for Derby City Hall on Monday.
The building will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. It will open at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, but close at 1 p.m.
The same hours apply to the Derby Welcome Center and the municipal court.
The city is making the shift to offer more opportunities for people that work 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. jobs. Closing early on Friday - the day when city services are used the least - keeps the city budget unchanged.
"After the Derby Chamber of Commerce endorsed this idea, the city council discussed it several times over the past year," said Mayor Dion Avello. "City hall customers were surveyed, and 90 percent supported this schedule."
The Derby Senior Center will be open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 7-1 on Friday.
The Derby Dash public transportation runs from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, except for Fridays when school is not in session and during summer months. Then, it runs until 12:30 p.m.
