Police identify victims of east Wichita crash
Wichita police identified the man and woman who were killed Sunday when their minivan veered into a drainage canal. Randall Storms, 56, and his wife Sue, 59, were killed when their eastbound van suddenly went into a parking lot and then crashed in a culvert at Central and Brookside.
Lieutenant Joe Schroeder said witnesses reported the van traveling at normal speed when it suddenly went to the left and into the ditch. It's believed Randall, who was driving, had a medical problem that led to the crash. The van was equipped with hand controls that allowed a person in a wheelchair to drive.
Randall was pinned behind the wheel of the car, and Sue was ejected from the van. A service dog was also killed in the crash. Schroeder said there will be more investigative work to do when autopsy reports are completed.
The Storms were known in the community for their church-related activities and their work with local charities.
