Fire investigation leads to homicide case in Chanute
Chanute police have identified a body found after a house fire last week.
Police said the body is 37-year-old Christy Thomas-Wiles, who was missing after the fire. Investigators said at this time, the case is focused on aggravated arson and first degree murder. In a statement, Chanute's Director of Public Safety Sam Budreau called it "a tragedy that our whole community grieves for."
Investigators are continuing to follow up on leads in connection with the fire. Police said anyone with information is asked to contact the Chanute Police Department at 620-431-5768.
