Man arrested in Wichita for impersonating police officer
A police officer saw a car traveling at high speed late Thursday night in southwest Wichita, with red and blue lights and a siren. The officer stopped the car in the 2300 block of South West Street and then found police equipment and a B-B gun inside the car.
Lieutenant Steve Kenney said the man told officers he was trying to stop a car for running a red light. The man was booked into jail for impersonating a police officer.
Kenney said it's not believed the man was responsible for some recent incidents involving phony police officers, although he may be involved in one incident on Kellogg and another on 21st Street last year.
Kenney said if a motorist is suspicious about a law enforcement officer trying to pull them over, the motorist can call 911 to verify that it's a real officer.
