Woman who embezzled to save farm faces sentencing
WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A Kansas woman who claims she stole from her credit union employer to save her family farm has asked a judge for leniency at her upcoming sentencing.
Pamela Emig, 48, of Solomon, has asked the court to impose a sentence of a year and a day at her sentencing Monday in federal court in Topeka. Federal guidelines recommend a sentence of 51 to 63 months in her case.
Emig pleaded guilty in November to one count of credit union embezzlement after stealing about $817,167 from her employer, Enterprise Credit Union.
Her attorney argued in a court filing that Emig broke under the pressure. Facing foreclosure, she and her husband had filed for bankruptcy. They were not allowed to sell any cattle, nor had any money to feed the livestock.
