Arkansas City police were called to a disturbance on South Summit Street, just before 5:30 p.m. Sunday. A man claimed he was pushed, held down, beaten and was unable to get away for 30 minutes.

The suspect, Loren Hearlson, left the victim's home with two firearms, then returned to his own home in the 800 block of South A Street. He sent multiple texts to the victim, threatening to pull a gun on police if they were called. The victim also worried that Hearlson may try to harm himself.

Police surrounded Hearlson's home and told everyone in the area to stay inside or leave. Hearlon refused to cooperate with police, but did allow two children to leave the home. Officers were eventually able to convince Hearlson to give up without incident. Two guns were confiscated from the home.

Hearlson was taken to Cowley County Jail on charges of battery, domestic violence, disorderly conduct, criminal threat and criminal restraint. His bond is set at $4,250.
