Area women injured when their cars collide with cattle

Two women were taken to hospitals after they crashed into cows while driving on K-254 in the Benton area Sunday evening.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said a total of four westbound vehicles hit the cattle at about 8 p.m. The injured women were in separate cars. A trooper's report said the cows were in the roadway about 500 feet east of Meadowlark Road. 
 
Patricia Kiraly, 55, Wichita, was driving a 1994 Dodge that collided with the animals. She was taken to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis where she was listed in fair condition Monday morning. 
 
Michelle Beneke, 53, Valley Center, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet. She was rushed to Wesley Medical Center where she was also in fair condition.
 
Two other women were not hurt when their cars hit the animals. They were identified as Victoria Kenton, 59, Leavenworth, and Susan Gayle Griem, 53, Benton.
