Chanute persons of interest now primary murder suspects
The interest of the whereabouts of a Chanute couple has taken a new twist.
Brian Shields and Michelle Voorhees, once considered "persons of interest, " are now considered primary suspects in the recent death of Cristy Wiles of Chanute. Police said the public should consider Shields and Voorhees armed and dangerous.
Police said to not approach the couple, but if they are seen, call local law enforcement. The public is urged to call the Chanute Police Department at 620-431-5768 with any information about the duo. Police have established local, regional and national alert systems to catch the pair.
The Chanute Major Case Squad is working with investigators from the Kansas State Fire Marshal's Office, Neosho County Sheriff and Chanute Fire Department in the case.
Wiles' body was found in a house fire in the 200 block of North Lafeyette in Chanute. Investigators have not revealed what started the fire.
