Lightning strike results in house fire west Wichita
A lightning strike is the blame for a house fire in west Wichita.
It happened during a winter storm with "thundersnow" that dropped increased amount of heavy snow this morning across the city. The snow also caused problems with response time.
The fire damaged the attic and a garage in the 1200 block of South Seville. Fire investigator said the fire left $75,000 worth of damage at the scene. The was occupied at the time of the fire.
Battalion Chief Andy Cole said three adults and pets got out of the home safely. The Red Cross was called and disregarded from the scene. A relative will take care of the family for a while.
Cole discouraged motorists from traveling in the height of the storm, including his wife and son. One ambulance stuck in the snow at the scene.
