Rezoning request denied for east Wichita clinic property
The Metropolitan Area Planning Commission has denied a rezoning for the east Wichita clinic property that was once operated by the late abortion provider George Tiller.
The anti-abortion group Kansans For Life wanted to prevent a new clinic from opening in the building at Kellogg and Bleckley, saying that it would cause disruptions for the surrounding neighborhood. The group presented petitiions with almost 14-thousand signatures to the Wichita city council on February 5th.
On Thursday, the Metropolitan Area Planning Commission voted 6 to 4 to deny the rezoning. Kansans For Life could appeal the decision to the Wichita city council.
A non profit group called the Trust Women Foundation has purchased the building, and it poans to open a new clinic offering women's health services and abortion services.
