The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office said a Wichita woman was killed in a car-train accident.

The crash happened about 10:45 a.m. Friday at railroad tracks near 47th Street South and K-15. The driver of the car was 71-year-old Luanna Kernes.

Witnesses said Kernes' Ford Focus began to slide before it collided with the side of the engine pulling the 69-car Burlington Northern Santa Fe train.

County EMS paramedics and firefighters performed CPR on Kernes at the scene. She died of her injuries at the hospital. Slick roads are being looked at as a possible cause in a wreck.

Investigators said it appears the crossing arms were down and lights were flashing, but the car didn't stop in time to avoid the collision.
