A woman in the 1400 block of East Tulsa fired gunshots to try to scare off intruders in the 1400 block of East Tulsa Monday afternoon.

Three men knocked on the woman's door looking for a man, but she said she did not know the person they were searching for. About 15 minutes later, the men came back and tried to kick in a back door.

"Previously, her home had been burglarized, so she had boarded this particular door shut," said Wichita Police Lt. Doug Nolte. "When she got to the kitchen area, she retrieved a handgun and was observing this door being kicked in.

"When they could not get it kicked in, she stated she heard several gun shots. In fact, it looks like three gun shots were fired through the door, into the house."

The woman fled her home and fired two shots in the air, then went to a neighbor's home to call 911.
