The American Red Cross needs blood donors after snowstorm
The winter storm has passed, and now the American Red Cross needs blood donors.
Fifty blood drives across Kansas were canceled, resulting in a shortfall of more than 1,600 blood and platelet donations. All blood types are needed, especially types O negative, A negative and B negative. A spokeswoman said platelets are also in great need, as they have a shelf life of just five days.
The Wichita Blood Donation Center is located at 707 North Main in Wichita. The Blood Center is open Feb. 27-28 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and March 1-2 from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
A blood donor must have a card or driver’s license, or two other forms of identification, at check-in. Donors who are 17 years of age (16 with parental consent in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
