Derby optometrist pleads guilty to wire fraud
An optometrist in Derby pleaded guilty to five counts of wire fraud for eye exams that were never performed.
Wade Abbey, 47, and his wife, Mindy, worked for Vision Doctors. Both were paid hourly wages, as well as additional wages for each eye exam performed.
Wade was paid $583,060 for filing fraudulent eye exams.
Wade faces sentencing on May 16. The maximum penalty is 20 years in federal prison and $250,000 in fines on each count. Wade could also have to pay restitution.
Mindy is awaiting trial.
