Police arrest car thief and car theft victim
An 18-year-old man reported a car theft to Wichita police early Thursday, then he found himself in jail.
Lieutenant Doug Nolte said the man and a 20-year-old woman reported a car theft in the 1800 block of North Woodland around 1 a.m. The man was sitting in a patrol car to get out of the cold weather, and Nolte said the man began taking some electronic devices and other items out of the patrol car and putting them in his pockets.
The items were discovered when the victim went to city hall and went through a routine search.
Nolte said officers later found the stolen car in another part of the city. They arrested the man who was driving it.
