Kansas Gov. signs proclamation for severe weather awareness week
In an effort to drive home that Kansas weather is unpredictable, there was a special proclamation signed in Topeka.
The ceremony Thursday was originally set for Feb. 22, but was postponed due to the two snow storms that struck beginning Feb. 20. Governor Sam Brownback designated March 3-9 as "Severe Weather Awareness Week" in Kansas. Spring is right around the corner, and so is the beginning of tornado season.
The Kansas Division of Emergency Management will focus on a different aspect of emergency preparedness each day of the week:
- Monday, March 4 ‑ Build a Disaster Kit
- Tuesday, March 5 ‑ Make a Plan; Statewide Tornado Drill
- Wednesday, March 6 ‑ Tornado Awareness Day
- Thursday, March 7 ‑ Get a NOAA Weather Radio Day.
- Friday, March 8 ‑ Let’s Talk: Twitter Severe Weather Awareness Talk
