Man sentenced to life in grandmother's death
A Bartlesville, Okla. man was sentenced to life in prison for strangling his grandmother.
The crime happened at her home in December of 2011. Jacob Hoyt, 20, was sentenced Friday in Butler County District Court for killing his 69-year-old grandmother, Loyce Cody, of Augusta.
Prosecutors said Hoyt and his girlfriend, 20-year-old Lyndsey Giovinazzo, killed Cody while burglarizing her home.
They took the Wichita preschool teacher's car, debit cards and candy and were arrested a short time later after a chase through Butler and Cowley counties.
Giovinazzo pleaded guilty in July to first-degree murder, and was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. Hoyt will be eligible for parole in 20 years.
