The United Way wants to give local youth an opportunity to stay busy and help others during their spring break.

The organization is accepting sign-ups for its Youth Days of Caring event that runs March 18-22. Sign-ups continue through March 11.

"This is a great opportunity for young people to feel the joy in helping others while meeting new friends and learning about their community," said Patrick Hanrahan, United Way of the Plains president.

Students can volunteer for several projects throughout the week, which benefit more than 30 local nonprofits. Projects include yard work, spring cleaning and playing with children.

Volunteers can be middle school and high school aged students.
