Catholic Charities hires new director
The board of directors of Catholic Charities have selected Mike Burrus to be their new executive director.
Burrus is currently the president of Kapaun Mt. Carmel Catholic High School, and has been for the last 12 years. Melissa Grelinger will continue to run Catholic Charities' 14 programs and projects as she has been since she became interim director. Burrus is expected to begin his new role on Sept. 3.
Grelinger replaced Cynthia Colbert as director when she left to become director of Catholic Charities in the archdiocese of Galveston-Houston in December. Burrus said he had planned to retire after the 2012-2013 school year, but he realized he was being led in another direction. Robert Knapp has been named as his replacement at Kapaun.
"I feel a calling to continue working within the Catholic Church," said Burrus. "My new position with the Catholic Charities provides a great opportunity to serve the people of Wichita and the south central and southeast parts of the state who are struggling."
