A water main break is being repaired in north Wichita.

The break happened Thursday evening near 45th Street North and Hillside. The city says around 350 customers have been affected.

Wichita Heights High School and Stucky Middle School were without running water. School district spokesperson Susan Arensman said classes continued as normal, with an emergency plan put into effect.

She said water was brought in for flushing toilets, and hand sanitizer was provided for students to keep their hands clean. Bottled water was brought in for drinking, and food was brought in for school lunches so there would not have to be food preparation in the buildings.

Wichita's deputy public works director, Joe Pajor, said water service should be restored by late afternoon. Water was back on early Friday afternoon at Heights and Stucky.

Crews repaired the original break Thursday evening, but a second leak was discovered when the water was turned back on.
