KHP says to have fun but use common sense if celebrating this weekend
With St. Patrick's Day coming up on Sunday, the Kansas Highway Patrol is reminding you to have fun, but to use common sense if you plan on drinking.
Lt. Joshua Kellerman says that penalties for driving or attempting to operate a motor vehicle of any kind while intoxicated can be substantial; including the loss of your driver's license and jail time.
The KHP says that if you plan on drinking to designate a non-drinking driver and hand your keys over to them. They also recommend that if possible, spend the night at the event. It's also a good idea to have a list of phone numbers of cabs or friends you can call for a ride home if you have been drinking.
"It all comes down to good decisions...and that's what we ultimately want you to make. Have a good time, but get home safely," Lt. Kellerman says.
You can report drunk or impaired drivers to your local law enforcement agency, or to the KHP by dialing *47 on your phone.
