The City of Wichita's website, wichita.gov, has been honored for its transparency.

The site earned a Sunny Award, earning an "A" grade. More than 1,000 sites across the nation were graded by editors of the Sunshine Review. They looked for content including budgets, meetings, lobbying, financial audits, contracts and public records.

"The city council has stressed the importance of transparency for this organization," said Wichita City Manager Robert Layton. "We're honored to receive a Sunny Award, and we will continue to empower and engage citizens by providing information necessary to keep them informed on the actions their government is taking on their behalf."

The Sunny Awards were announced during Sunshine Week, March 10-16, but Wichita's award was delayed because of the city's launch of its new site. The newer version of the website also earned an "A" grade.

Across the nation, 250 government entities were selected with the Sunny Award.
