Former Newton Chamber of Commerce employee faces theft, forgery charges
Criminal charges have been filed in Harvey County District Court against Kayla Tillery, a former employee of the Newton Chamber of Commerce.
Tillery, 43, is facing charges of theft and forgery. It is alleged that she forged a $5,500 check in the chamber's name, as well as stole more than $25,000 from the chamber's "Newton Bucks" program - a fund that local businesses treat as cash.
Tillery is being held in the Harvey County Detention Center on $50,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 28 at 1:30 p.m.
In a release, Harvey County Attorney David Yoder said there are no other suspects in the case.
Additional charges may be filed before the preliminary hearing.
