Police are investigating a copper theft that could end up costing a non-profit group $80,000.

A maintenance worker at Senior Services at 200 South Walnut noticed that someone had tampered with a gate and had damaged an air conditioner. Wires had been cut and about $60 worth of copper had been harvested from the unit.

Some wires were cut from a Westar pole nearby. Police have not named a suspect.
