Tough D expected in Shocker-Panther NCAA matchup

Wichita State is a four-point underdog going into this afternoon's NCAA Tournament second round game with Pittsburgh.

The Panthers (24-8) finished in fourth place in the talent-rich Big East Conference, behind tournament overall No. 1 Louisville, Georgetown and Marquette. Wichita State (26-8) finished in second place in the Missouri Valley Conference, behind Creighton.

To win, the Shockers will have to capitalize on scoring opportunities. Pitt is ranked fifth in the country in scoring defense, allowing opponents only 55.4 points per game.  

 

Wichita State is led by senior forward Carl Hall (12.8 ppg, 7.2 rpg) and junior forward Cleanthony Early (13.6 ppg, 5.1 rpg).
 
Tipoff is scheduled for 12:40 p.m. at EnergySolutions Arena in Salt Lake City.
